The 2020 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru marks another step in the direction of elegance for this historically rather firm cuvée, and it has gained immeasurably in charm while losing nothing in intensity or concentration. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of cherries, wild berries, sweet spices, forest floor and burning embers, it's full-bodied, ample and layered, with a velvety attack that segues into a fleshy mid-palate and a long, perfumed finish.

There is just enough reduction to mask all but discreet floral nuances. The delicious, vibrant and more powerful larger-scaled flavors exude notably more minerality on the youthfully austere and superbly persistent finale. This beauty could also use a bit more depth.
