Maury, Domaine Bachelet (Maury) 1939

Tasting Notes

Made from 100% Grenache, this has a deep garnet colour and complex, earthy nose of kirsch, leather, incense and old books. The palate follows in the same vein, with a lick of sweetness highlighting the powerful black fruit in the middle, offering notes of dried cherry, fig and damson. Leather, sweet spices and earthy mature blend to make a powerful style. There is a little grip from the tannins that linger in this style that straddles tawny and vintage ports, with a more Rhoneish fruit profile and, of course, slightly lower alcohol. Long and peppery on the finish.
