I often lament the fact that only the 1990 and 2009 are wines that fully showcase this extraordinary terroir. However, the 2000 is no "Ugly Betty," so to speak. It showed extremely well in the tastings, with the tell-tale notes of flowers, crushed rock, blueberry and camphor well-displayed. Full-bodied, rich, long, and just beginning to shed its cloak of tannin, this is quite an impressively endowed Beausejour-Duffau that can be drunk in 1-2 years or cellared for another 25 or more.
The most complete Beausejour since the mythical 1990, the black/purple-colored 2000 exhibits a Port-like bouquet of blackberry liqueur, minerals, blueberries, camphor, and melted asphalt. Its spectacular texture and ripeness are reminiscent of the perfect 1990, but this effort is not as rich or super-concentrated as that wine. Nevertheless, the 2000 should merit significant interest. Pure, complex, and reasonably priced, it will be at its apogee between 2009-2025+. Last tasted, 1/03.
Undeniably the most complete Beausejour Duffau since the mythical 1990, the black/purple-colored 2000 exhibits a port-like bouquet of licorice, blackberry liqueur, minerals, blueberries, camphor, and melted asphalt. Medium rather than full-bodied, it has a multi-layered texture in addition to gorgeous ripeness. While it is not as rich or super-concentrated as the colossal 1990, the 2000 still merits significant interest. Pure, complex, and reasonably priced, it will be at its apogee between 2013-2025+.

Undoubtedly the finest Beausejour-Duffau produced since the perfect 1990, the 2000 boasts an opaque black/purple color. What follows is a tannic, tight, structured, dense personality offering predominant characteristics of blackberry liqueur and minerals. The sweet attack gives way to a structured, serious, ageworthy wine with an abundance of tannin as well as very good acidity. Marvelous purity, high extraction, and laser-like clarity characterize this well-endowed 2000. Once more, patience will be a virtue. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2030.
The 2000 Beausejour Duffau is sullen and muted on the nose at the moment, touches of smoke and graphite emerging with time, very pure but still reluctant to show the chutzpah of the 2005 or 2009. The palate is crisp on the entry, silky and smooth with black cherries, black pepper and tobacco. It remains a broody bugger, but you cannot help falling for its saturnine personality. Keep it in the cellar. Tasted December 2012.
