Earlier this year, Farr Vintners gathered together a distinguished group of Ch�teau proprietors, n�gociants, UK merchants and wine writers, including Jancis Robinson, Steven Spurrier and James Suckling for an extensive tasting of Bordeaux 1998. A selection of over 60 wines featuring all the biggest names from St Emilion, Pomerol and Graves were served strictly blind to the panel and scored out of 20 points.

This much-awaited champagne from the superb 1996 vintage is one of only two Champagnes ever awarded 99 points by the Wine Spectator. Remi Krug thinks that it is "perhaps the best Krug I have ever made" and it would be hard not to agree with him. This stunning wine is a must-buy, not just for Krug aficionados but for all lovers of Champagne.

The latest edition of Robert Parker's Wine Advocate highlights the wines of Ch�teauneuf du Pape and in particular the very good 2005 and 2006 vintages. Mr Parker headlines his report "The World's Most Delicious Red Wines?" and scores a staggering 250 wines with 90 points or more (issue #173).

The latest edition of Robert Parker's Wine Advocate reviews Australian wines from the 2004, 2005 and 2006 vintages. Reviewer Jay Miller remarks that "these three vintages are all excellent to outstanding", prompting him to declare that "the state of Australian wines has never been better".

Hot on the heels of these rave reviews, we are pleased to offer you a selection of wines from two outstanding Australian producers, Mitolo and Two Hands, from the 2005 and 2006 vintages. While all of these featured wines received scores over 90 points, the Shiraz Angel's Share (93 points) from Two Hands represents excellent value for money at only �115 per case.

Yquem 1987 - Ex Chateau

We have recently purchased the entire remaining stocks of Chateau d'Yquem 1987 from the reserves of the Chateau. We tasted the wine last week and whilst it may not have the intensity of a great vintage it is very recognisably Yquem, with a lovely gold colour, impressive viscosity and a long cr�me br�l�e style palate. For those with Christmas in mind or 21st birthday parties in 2008, there are some wonderful big bottles, which would look absolutely stunning on any dining table.

Newly released from the ever-impressive Lynch Bages stable comes Blanc de Lynch Bages 2006. A blend of Sauvignon (45%), Semillon (45%) and Muscadelle (10%) vinified in a combination of stainless vats and oak barrels and showing all its typical character.

Last week a distinguished group of wine merchants and wine writers assembled in Southwold for three days to taste through 250+ wines from the recently released 2004 Bordeaux vintage. Not surprisingly, there was a strong showing from all the First Growths but they were given a serious run for their money by some of their much more modestly priced neighbours. The overall winner of the tasting was the awesome Ch�teau Ausone but we would like to highlight here the wines that deliver top quality at much lower prices.

We recently participated in a marathon blind tasting of all the leading wines of Bordeaux in the 2003 vintage. The tasting was held over three days and the panel of judges included Steven Spurrier of "Decanter Magazine", Neal Martin of "The Wine Advocate" and Andrew Jefford of "The Financial Times" as well as the buyers of many of Britain s leading fine wine merchants.

The conclusion of the tasting was that this is a fabulous and absolutely unique year for the red wines of Bordeaux with previously unknown levels of ripeness, richness and concentration. With masses of opulent, ripe fruit, low acidity and rounded tannins this is a drop-dead-gorgeous vintage that will give great drinking pleasure at an early age, however, in the Northern M�doc communes in particular, the top Ch�teaux have made wines that will age for many years. In our view, these wines are similar to those of 1989 and 1990..but potentially even better.

Bordeaux 2005: Decanter's "greatest tasting ever"

Decanter magazine recently conducted a comprehensive blind tasting of the 2005 M�doc Cru Class�s and now, for the first time, we can officially publish the results. A Decanter record of 25 awards were handed out, making this "the greatest Decanter panel tasting ever held", further highlighting the undisputed quality and class of the vintage, which was described by several of the distinguished panellists (which included 4 Masters of Wine) as being "exceptional".
