The deep ruby/purple-tinged 2004 exhibits solidly constructed, blueberry, raspberry, and cherry flavors with notions of minerals and flowers in the background. Ripe, medium-bodied, and performing significantly better than it did 12 months ago, this moderately tannic effort is best cellared for 2-3 years, and drunk over the following 15.
Bright and floral on the nose, with lots of ripe fruit. Full-bodied, with a thick, almost jammy character on the palate. Impressive richness. Velvety texture. Better than the 2003 from barrel.
One of the big-time sleepers of the vintage, this impressive St.-Emilion, now vinified by Libourne’s Dr. Alain Raynaud, should sell at a reasonable price given its lack of pedigree. The dense purple-colored 2004 offers a sweet perfume of blackberries, cherries, crushed rocks, and flowers. Medium to full-bodied, with sweet fruit, ripe tannin, good texture as well as purity, and a reassuringly long finish, it will be drinkable between 2007-2016.
