The 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de la Reine des Bois possesses a level of richness found in only a handful of the world's greatest wines. The dense purple color is followed by multiple flavor dimensions as well as massive concentration and thickness. It is reminiscent of a dry vintage Port, without the weight. The knock-out nose of framboise, blackberry liqueur, cassis, licorice, and lead pencil shavings is followed by layers of flavor, remarkable purity, and a finish that lasts nearly a minute. This is a sumptuous, profound wine. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2020.
