Richebourg, Domaine Hudelot-Noellat 2001

Tasting Notes

(with thanks to Dr. Reed Day, Joe Wong and from personal storage). Initial bricking. I have had the pleasure of trying this many times over the years and it has arrived at its peak with its fully mature secondary aromas that reflect notes of spice, red berry fruit and Asian-style tea along with soft floral and sous-bois wisps. There is still good verve to the utterly delicious middle weight flavors that exude a subtle minerality that continues onto the impressively complex and persistent finish where a hint of dryness is in evidence. To my taste this has not only arrived at its peak but I would be looking for reason to drink up over the next five years or so as I suspect that the dryness may become progressively more pronounced. To be sure, this remains a lovely Richebourg but I sense a certainly fragility developing.
