Tasting Notes

A very strong effort from Petit Village, the 2010 is the finest effort in years. Dark plum with hints of mocha, caramel, sweet currants and cherries, this opulent, savory, and explosive full-bodied wine already is accessible and evolved. Anticipated maturity: now- 2025.

The 2010 Petit Village has an attractive bouquet with black cherries, bergamot and black tea aromas that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, strict tannins. Good acidity here, very classic in style with tobacco and graphite on the dry finish. It should be better. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal. Drink: 2021-2038

Spicy nose with nutmeg, cedar and sweet tobacco. Blueberries and some milk chocolate. Pure dark fruit on the palate with a wonderful texture and quite deep structure. Ripe polished tannins and a wonderfully focused long finish. Best ever from here. Drink from 2018.

Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Petit Village reveals notions of baked raspberries, black plums and kirsch with nuances of tobacco, underbrush and charcuterie. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a rugged frame and ample black fruits preserves, finishing earthy. 2020-2028

This has a lot more breadth than most of the Derenoncourt wines I have just been tasting. Lightly minty. Succulent and pleasing. Really pretty good with great balance. I look forward to tasting this blind under UGC auspices. Relatively subtle. Though still relatively tough on the end.

Axa Millesimes, the owners of Pichon Baron have invested greatly in this well situated Pomerol property. The quality level is much improved of late. This is a lovely succulent Pomerol that has a supple Merlot texture, silky, rounded tannins and very good length. This is the epitomé of Pomerol. Juicy, plump and hedonistic.

The nose is lush packed out with ripe black fruits. Black plum, cassis and black cherry give richness and complexity on the palate and as the tannins feel ripe and rounded there is a supple fleshiness towards the back.

Impressive wine this year. The best ever? Dense, complex nose. Explosive fruit on the palate. Velvety texture. Plenty of freshness and a long, persistent finish. Drink 2018-2035.

The finest wine from this estate since their glorious 1982, the 2010 Petit Village possesses aromas of licorice, black cherries, cassis, truffles and oak. Powerful and deep with a corpulent texture, a silky mouthfeel and a wonderful lushness, it will be drinkable in 2-3 years and last for 15 or more.

Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux 2010 tasting. This is a perplexing showing of this Pomerol grand cru that is striving so hard to improve its wines. Yet there is a nagging greenness on the nose on the Petit-Village: dense earthy black fruit with autumn leaves and tertiary scents. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, crisp acidity and the finish is actually quite attractive, by which time the nose is more harmonious and refined. However, this does not quite convince as a top tier Petit Village. Tasted January 2014.

Tasted at the Union de Grand Cru in London. The Petit Village has a rather strict bouquet - very linear - with scents of briary, sous-bois and a hint of dried orange peel. The palate is well balanced with a fleshy entry infused with Asian spice, white pepper and a touch of sea salt. This is a complex, assertive Petit Village that coats the mouth, although I suspect it will develop more finesse with time on the finish. Tasted November 2012.

Tasted at Pichon Baron. A blend of 18% Cabernet Franc, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon and the remainder Merlot, this has a relatively understated nose with dark cherries, a touch of truffle and blackberry leaf. The palate is full-bodied with grippy tannins, a voluminous Petit-Village, quite assertive, perhaps just a little aggressive on the tannic finish at the moment. Masculine and bold, I did not warm to this PV as much as I anticipated. Let's see after bottling. Drink 2015- Tasted March 2011.

What a change here with impressive polished tannins and lots of blueberry, milk chocolate and polished tannnins. It goes on for long time on the palate. Much more precise winemaking. 18 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 9 percent Cabernet Franc and the rest in Merlot
