Aromas of tar, ripe fruit and dried herbs. Full-bodied, with a good core of round-textured tannins and a long finish. Friendly wine. Nicely done.
Tasted blind. Blackish crimson. Pale rim. Some light cassis aroma. A bit scrawny. This is on the cusp of refreshing and austere. Lots of restraint! Very backward and not emphatic. GV (good value). Drink 2020-2045. 17++
This has a very deep black colour with hardly any fade at the rim. This is serious. Inky, chewy and a really classic example of Bordeaux Cabernet Sauvignon at its imperious best. Strapping cassis fruit with a touch of spicy oak. Must be Montrose! (Tasted blind at the 12 years on tasting. It wasn't Montrose, it was Meyney).
Note : Rated above both Montrose and Cos d'Estournel by the panel of experts at the blind tasting of 2005's in February 2017.

One of the most developed-looking. Light nose that's a little leafy and not especially ripe. Perfectly fine, rather traditional old fashioned St-Estèphe though not exactly thrilling
Very ripe and focussed and intense on the nose. Suprisingly gentle for a St-Estephe. The polar opposite of the Phelan Segur - almost disconcertingly smooth. Competent but ultimately a bit workmanlike. Full, round, easy- just slightly too flattering on the palate perhaps but awfully easy and full of charm. Another airline (ie early maturing, please-all) wine? Certainly no shortage of fine 2005 tannins. Very dry finish. Well done. Drink 2009-18
