Tasted blind at the 2007 Bordeaux horizontal in Southwold. The Poujeaux '07 has a strong nose of bell pepper and blackberry leaf, rendering it rather Chinon-like in style, but I appreciate the freshness and vitality. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly dusty tannins, good acidity with touches of black pepper and smoke and a hint of meat towards the very foursquare finish. Not bad at all. Tasted January 2011.
Bright red-ruby. Dark cherry, cassis, licorice and violet on the reasonably ripe, perfumed nose. Juicy and moderately intense, with a slightly peppery herbaceousness to the black cherry and cassis fruit. Can't match recent vintages for density of material, but the extraction here has avoided hard tannins.
