The 2004 Grand Millesime is a relatively rich, round and textured wine from Gosset. Dried pears, almonds, flowers, orange rind and spices are some of the many nuances that are woven together. Warm, rich and resonant, the 2004 is quite expressive today, especially in its bouquet. The 2004 is drinking beautifully today, and should continue to offer considerable pleasure over the next handful of years. This is a slightly more oxidative style than is common in the Gosset range. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017.
An aromatic and forward nose of pears, peaches and apples here with smoky, bready notes too. The palate follows from the nose, full and ripe with lots of ripe stone fruit, brioche and a hint of apple. The wine is fresh and surprisingly ready to drink, though the bready notes, crisp acidity, and persistent mousse reveal complexity that show this wine to be worthy of cellar ageing. It has a silky mouth-coating texture and a very long finish. A very accomplished, balanced Champagne.
55% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir. A minimum of six years' ageing on lees before disgorgement. Dosage 8 g/l. No malo.
Captivating aroma that has both fresh creamy fruit and developed, scented complexity. Multi-layered. Refined intensity creating a perfect whole, with elegance and length. Hard to move on from this wonderful wine - and it is one of the less expensive in the line-up
