The last vintage of Laville Haut-Brion (its name was changed to La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc in 2009) is a blend of 79% Semillon and 21% Sauvignon Blanc revealing lovely lemon blossom, orange marmalade, candle wax, honeysuckle and hints of smoky oak. Full-bodied and capable of lasting 20-25 years, it is a sensational dry white.
Greenish tinge. Firm grapefruit aromas, then attractive fruit weight on the palate. Green streak. Very cleansing! Mineral finish. Skinnier than many other years. Very brisk and bracing.
(79% semillon and 21% sauvignon blanc) Light straw-green. Initially reticent nose needs coaxing to reveal aromas of orange blossom, lemon and minerals. Enters the mouth bright and fresh, with citrus and mineral flavors of sneaky concentration, but comes across as a rather linear, austere Laville. Harmonious acidity extends the flavors on the back end, but this wine will need to develop more complexity to warrant an outstanding rating.
A blend of 79% Semillon and 21% Sauvignon Blanc. The nose is bright and lively with grapefruit, a touch of pear and apple, nice definition and after ten minutes there are hints of vanilla pod evolving. The palate is fresh and citrus-like, nice tension, a touch of pear. Lime and apple-blossom towards the finish. Very elegant and poised.
