Germany is home to the Riesling grape which makes wines that range from fully dry "trocken" to the ultra sweet "Trockenbeerenauslese" or TBA. It's the styles in between that provide the most interesting drinking with Spatlese combining ripe fruit with zingy acidity and Auslese indicating later picked and richer wines. It is the interplay between fruit and acidity that makes these wines such fun. For those bored with chardonnay, these racy wines are the next big thing.
