A young red with bitter chocolate and berry character. Full body, with fine tannins and a medium finish. Refined and very pretty. The second wine of Canon. Hard not to drink now, but better in 2016.
Still a deep ruby in colour, the nose is deep and brooding with black plums and cherries. There is plenty of structure here, but the tannins are fine-grained and give a chalky, mouthfilling density to the wine. Beneath this there are layers of forest fruits, with hints of savoury spices and a little dried violet. Powerful and long on the finish, this doesn't feel like a second wine, with impressive potential, though you can drink it now with a light decant and/or food.
This has ripe fruit, but takes a more charming approach, offering flavors of cherry preserves and cassis, with flecks of spice, wrapped with a supple licorice note and nicely integrated apple wood character. Drink now through 2020.
