Cote Rotie Rosé Pourpre, Domaine Pierre Gaillard 2005

Tasting Notes

The 2005 Cote Rotie Rose Pourpre, from the Rozier site on pure schist, is fabulous. Deep ruby/purple with notes of blackberries, anise, pain grille, tar, and flowers, the wine is full-bodied, pure, ripe, intensely concentrated, and superbly etched and structured. Give this wine 3-4 years of bottle age and drink it over the next 10-15 years.

Very dark – definitely more poupre than rose. Right out to rim. A bit swamped by oak on the nose. Luscious fruit underneath mind you so it will probably come right in the end but there are oak tannins on the finish too which detract from it at the moment. 2010 – 2018
