Notably deep colour. Lovely nose – full and opulent. Burnt edge but very savoury and appetising. Very dramatic. A bit dry finish. Gouleyant.

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, March 2006

Dark colour, very good concentration with thick rich, almost jammy, fruit and lots of sexy vanilla/oak. Obvious but impressive. Continues the new style of wine made here since the mid 1990's. Maybe the best Smith yet.

"A beautiful wine with symmetry, finesse and elegance. This deep ruby/purple-coloured offering reveals classic aromas of black currants, new wood and scorched earth. This pure, medium-bodied, restrained, measured, graceful 1998 offers impressive overall symmetry as well as well-integrated tannin.
