CDP Domaine du Père Pape, Vignobles Mayard 2015

I adored the 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape Domaine du Pere Pape, a blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 15% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault. The complex aromas begin with hints of clean compost and mushroom, tree bark and blueberries. This full-bodied, creamy-textured wine ends with an intense dusting of spice on the long finish. All of the Mayard wines were matured in foudres or concrete, so there is a purity and fruit expression to these wines that can sometimes be lacking elsewhere in the appellation.
