Chambertin, Chantal Remy (Louis Remy) 2011

Tasting Notes

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. Like Bichot’s 2011, Chantal Remy’s 2011 Chambertin Grand Cru has quite a savory, almost Asian bouquet with touches of soy and cooked meat (Italian delicatessen with sawdust on the floor), that together infuse the red berry fruit. Returning later, there is a strong orange cordial scent mixed with Seville orange marmalade. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins. This is not the most sophisticated Chambertin Grand Cru, although it does have good body and girth. The finish feels tannic and muscular and requires several years in bottle.
