Dönnhoff's 2020 Oberhäuser Leistenberg Riesling Kabinett from a south-east facing site in the side valley of the Nahe opens with a very ripe, bright fruit aroma. The palate is round and lush as well as structured and driven by the fundamental minerality of this gorgeous Dönnhoff classic. 9% alcohol. Tasted at the domain in July 2021.
For many years now Dönnhoff’s Oberhäuser Leistenberg has set the benchmark for exhilarating Kabinett in Germany. 2020 is no exception, with the ripeness of fruit reflected in a fine appley fragrance augmented by the merest hint of caramel. But it’s not that sweet on the palate, putting its emphasis on a juicy and racy performance with just a dainty notion of graphite dust, reflecting its slatey provenance. Tasted blind it could easily be suspected as coming from the Saar or Ruwer.
