Macon Pierreclos Lieu Secret, Verget 2019

Tasting Notes

As usual, the 2019 Mâcon-Pierreclos Lieu Sécret originates in the only part of lieu-dit Le Chavigne that Guffens doesn't own himself, but his neighbor refuses to sell the vineyard, consenting only to sell the grapes. Offering up aromas of pear and crisp orchard fruit, framed by a touch of toasty oak, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and muscular, with a concentrated core of ripe fruit, succulent acids and a nicely defined finish.

This wine comes from the village of Pierreclos, more precisely from a plot called “En Craz” which is next to Domaine Guffens' “Chavigne” holdings. Verget’s own team picks all the grapes to produce this special cuvee only for Farr Vintners. The wine was totally vinified in barrels with 25% new oak. The fermentations ended at the end of December. The wine barrel ageing continued for 8 months with some bâtonnage. Smoky, leesy and rich on the nose, with creamy citrus and stone fruits. The palate is oily and ripe, with orange curd and mandarin layered by fresh white peach. This is silky and seductive, with tropical hints cut by refreshing acidity. Long, smoky and generous through to the finish, this is another outstanding expression of the "Lieu Secret".
