This hugely popular white Burgundy has been a star of the Verget range for several years. It is made from vines that are in the "en cras" sub-section of the Chavigne vineyard, touching those of Domaine Guffens-Heynen but, as they are not owned by the Domaine, it is bottled under the Verget label. Jean Marie prefers to keep the grape source of this wine a secret, hence the name. Matured in oak barrels of which 25% are new. Pale yellow colour with a powerful, fleshy nose of white stone fruits, white flowers and lemon oil. There is a layer of sweet wood smoke on both nose and palate, though it is already integrating well into the fruit core. The palate is succulent, polished and very moreish, a ripe core of fruit giving a satiny texture, with balanced but not racy acidity. This is generous, moreish and ready - another success of the vintage.
Julian Desplans (wine maker and right-hand man of Jean-Marie Guffens) says that the 2024 Verget wines have both minerality and power. Picked from September 10th to 28th. They are reminiscent of the 2010 and 2014 vintages.
