The 2022 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru comes from a 0.33-hectare parcel next to Méo-Camuzet, matured in 75% new oak (the first vines that Georges Mugneret bought…when he was a medical student!) The beautiful bouquet shades the Ruchottes-Chambertin with life-affirming mineralité and tension, laser-like focus and palpable energy. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid red berry fruit, tension from start to finish, finishing with real substance. Very long on the aftertaste - this is the Domaine's best 2022 and one of the best Clos Vougeot this vintage. (Drink between 2027-2052)
Almost always the deepest and most complete of the domaine's grands crus, the 2022 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with aromas of red berries, cherries, exotic spices, orange zest and potpourri. Full-bodied, layered and unctuous, with a rich and textural core of fruit framed by plenty of sweet, powdery tannins, it concludes with a long, resonant finish.
Tasting the 2022s from this cellar, the Clos Vougeot was the most expressive wine of all, with spicy mulberry and black plum fruit aromas and silky texture, while the abundant extract and freshness help carry the wine to a gratifying finish. The fruit – from a 0.3ha plot replanted 70 years ago – is destemmed and fermented on native yeasts before ageing in 70% new cask. This should be approachable early, but refrain from drinking for at least five years for best results. (Drink between 2025-2075)
