Black olive and berry aromas follow through to a full body, with lots of smoky oak and sweet fruit. Soft and very pretty. An outstanding second wine from Smith-Haut-Lafitte.
Second wine of Smith Haut-Lafitte. Early hints of undergrowth and leather - the most developed aromas of any wine tasted so far - but also sweet vanilla and very ripe plums. Then much darker and less aromatic on the palate. Firm and dry and less expressive in the mouth. Tannins are ripe and rounded. Date tasted 15 April 09.
A rich sweet nose of dusty blackcurrants and dark berry fruits. This is already showing some classic Graves character with earthy/mineral qualities overlayed with layers of ripe seductive fruit and a quite muscular tannic structure. A spicy grip in the finish shows this wine has plenty of class and offers superb value for a second wine of a leading Bordeaux château.
