Magdelaine 1989

Tasting Notes

88
Robert Parker, Bordeaux Book (4), December 2003

Still a youthful deep ruby/purple color, the 1989 Magdelaine's aromatics are beginning to emerge after a period of dormancy. Sweet kirsch and black cherry fruit intermixed with spice and a subtle herbaceousness and earthiness are present. On the palate, the wine is classic in terms of marrying elegance with ripeness and finesse. Moderate tannin remains in the finish. Overall, this is a measured, firmly structured, high quality Magdelaine that still requires a few more years of cellaring, atypical for the 1989 vintage in this sector of Bordeaux. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2020. Last tasted 3/97
