The 2022 Bourgogne Blanc Grand Élevage shows promise, delivering scents of pear, orange zest, toasted nuts and white flowers, followed by a medium-bodied, rich and satiny palate that's attractively pure and precise.
This white Burgundy is made with what Jean-Marie Guffens calls Grand Elevage. Despite this being "only" Bourgogne Blanc it is fermented and matured in barrel with 15% new oak - just like the more expensive wines of greater appellations. The grapes come from Peronne and Pierreclos. Bright in colour and aromatic profile, this shows forward citrus and orchard fruit right off the bat, together with a lick of sweet smoke and fresh ginger. The palate is tangy, with crunchy peach and zesty lemons make for a bright and easy style with freshness but no hard edges. A hint of smoke and textural richness brings harmony and fine balance. Beautiful now, it is best drunk in its youth while that fresh fruit matches the refreshing acidity at the core.
