The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru is 100% whole-bunch fruit this year. It has a knockout bouquet of mineral-driven black fruit, crushed stone, undergrowth and damp moss aromas, very complex and engaging. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin, and one of the most saline amongst Duroché’s 2018s, with a lightly spiced finish. One of the domaine’s most elusive cuvées, just a single barrel is produced. (Drink between 2021-2045)
Just one barrel, 100% whole bunch. Fresh pure purple, and though the whole bunch effect can be seen, it doesn’t totally change the style. Superb balance, a vibrant elegance, sweetly fine but not too far towards sucrosity. Already very good wine, and I expect the Cazetiers character to emerge further from under the Duroché style in due course. Tasted Nov 2019.
