The regular 2024 Mâcon-Pierreclos is a strong performer, mingling notes of pear and bread dough with an attractive touch of reduction. Medium-bodied, lively and impressively deep and fleshy for the year, it's produced from old vines facing Le Chavigne.
This wine from the village of Pierreclos is produced from old vines situated some 500 metres from the Domaine Guffens-Heynen Chavigne vineyard. Jean-Marie believes that it doesn't need any barrel ageing, so it is matured in stainless steel to preserve the freshness of this unoaked cuvée. Pale lemon in colour with a cool, citrus fruit-led nose that has a mineral, wet stone quality. The palate is zippy and bright, crunchy with green fruits and a hit of fresh pear. The finish is lightly floral, making it rich and lithe at once, with lingering purity and tension.
Julian Desplans (wine maker and right-hand man of Jean-Marie Guffens) says that the 2024 Verget wines have both minerality and power. Picked from September 10th to 28th. They are reminiscent of the 2010 and 2014 vintages.
