The 2021 Morgon Cuvée Corcelette comes from vines averaging 50-years in age, this vineyard suffering less reduction in volume than others due to the sandy soils. It is aged in used barrels for around 9 months. It has a quite compelling and complex bouquet, with raspberry and wild strawberry, rose petal and light chalky scents. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, finely chiseled and lending tension. The acidity keeps this taut, focused, and quite minerally towards the leaner-than-usual finish. There's moderate length with fine salinity. Bon vin. Drink 2024-2036.
The 2021 Morgon Corcelette wafts from the glass with aromas of tangy raspberries, cranberries, Indian spices, iodine, rose petals and green peppercorns, with a sheath of volatile acidity. The medium-bodied palate features a keen structure of tart acids and youthful, grainy tannins, further tightened by its slate-like minerality and tied together with a sharp, stony finish. It has good finesse but is just a hare too taut for my preference.
