An exuberantly floral-suffused nose features a blend of both red and black pinot fruit, exotic tea and plenty of spice wisps. The medium weight flavors also possess a simply gorgeous mouthfeel while exhibiting evident minerality on the firm, dusty, moderately austere and equally long finale. Note well though that this beauty is definitely built to repay extended cellaring. (Drink starting 2034)
Aromas of rose petals, sweet red berries, orange zest and wild plums introduce Berthaut's 2022 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Petits Monts, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and seamless wine that's pure and ethereal, with melting tannins and a long, mineral finish. This parcel's rehabilitation continues, and it appears to be really paying off.
The luminous vermillion hue of this wine announces it will be memorable; the initial attack boasts aromas of black cherry and pomegranate with hints of rose petals, star anise, and boxwood. The texture is bright and clean, with firm tannins and abundant crisp acidity, but enough warmth to make this feel approachable. The grapes are from the domaine's half-hectare spread over five parcels, all worked by horse and hand to deliver these perfectly ripe grapes; half are fermented as whole clusters before ageing in cask (one-quarter new). (Drink between 2035-2075)
