The 2021 Langhe Sauvignon Dives is dazzling. I can't believe I am writing that about at a Piedmont Sauvignon Blanc, but that is very much the case here. Rich and almost phenolic, with tons of depth, the Dives offers up a whole range of apricot and orchard fruit flavors, along with varietal floral, sage and tomato leaf accents. The balance of riper Sauvignon flavors and energy is compelling. Aging in acacia lends structure and textural depth, but the oak imprint is ultimately very, very subtle. I tasted the Dives at the end of a comprehensive survey of all the Burlotto new releases and was totally blown away. What a wine! Readers should note that Burlotto also makes a lighter, fresher Langhe Sauvignon, but I did not taste it for this report. (Drink between 2022-2028)
