Another fantastic wine from Egly, the 2025 disgorgement is based on the 2020 vintage, with 30% 2019 and 20% 2018, rounding out a serious trio that shows in the glass. The nose exudes confident ripeness, with confit citrus, fresh stone fruit and supple lees layers to make a complete, youthful and vibrant bouquet. The palate is powerful, with a creamy mousse and intense fruit coming together with real spice and savour. A wine of purity and personality, the fruit and savoury complexity are already on show and make for delicious drinking, but I have no doubt this wine will be even better with two or three years of bottle age. It will age gracefully for over a decade. Outstanding, long and very moreish.
A youthful straw color, aged for four years on the lees before disgorgement, the NV Champagne Grand Cru Brut is composed of 70% Pinot Noir and the rest Chardonnay. It comes from the historical vineyards of the family in Bouzy and Verzenay, as well as those located in Ambonnay. I love this wine, with its notes of wet stones and black raspberries. Based on 2020, it has more focus and tension; the mousse is spritely and energetic, with a nice level of clarity and pithy citrus. Drink 2025-2040.
