The 2024 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a clean, well-defined nose with raspberry coulis, wild strawberry and iodine scents, perhaps not quite as audacious as the 2023 but a very competent and classy Eche'. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins, layers of mulberry, raspberry and black pepper leading to a satisfying, quite persistent finish. This shakes off the travails of the growing season with class. 2027-2046
2 x 350-litre barrels. Pale to mid ruby in colour. Some attractive raspberry fruit, plenty of strawberry, a softer style which makes this Echezeaux a little less lacy than usual, yet with good length. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted Oct 2025.
The wood feels exotic on the nose here and will need time to knit into the fruit. The fruit is bright, with cranberry, red cherry and red plum, accented with clove and nutmeg. The fruit on the palate feels folded in on itself, slow to release at this young stage. Though shy, there is a nice chiselled structure keeping everything together and, with some air, you can sense the underlying quality. Cashmere textured and focused on the finish.
