This popular cuvée comes from a clay and limestone soil close to the village of Vergisson. In 2024 only the fruit from the old vines was selected for this cuvée with the rest going into the Bourgogne Blanc (hence why the name is Vieilles Vignes this year). It was picked late with low yields and matured in barrel with 25% new oak. Bright lemon in colour with a spicy nose led by confit citrus, salted limes and sandalwood. The palate is tightly coiled and the fruit springs forward with notes of yuzu, lemon blossom and spice. . This should unfurl beautifully with a year in bottle, showing more of its fine, structure core of fruit. Long, and promising.
Julian Desplans (wine maker and right-hand man of Jean-Marie Guffens) says that the 2024 Verget wines have both minerality and power. Picked from September 10th to 28th. They are reminiscent of the 2010 and 2014 vintages.
