Mazoyeres Chambertin, Domaine Dugat-Py 2009

Tasting Notes

This is quite different aromatically with a much more sauvage character to the otherwise brooding and extremely primary nose of dark berry fruit and earth-suffused nose. This is quite a masculine wine with its robust and big-bodied flavors that ooze dry extract that confers a textured mouth feel to the incredibly powerful and immensely long finish that is seriously structured. This is a magnificent example of the appellation but not one to buy unless you have ample amounts of patience.

The 2009 Mazoyeres-Chambertin is one of the most structured wines in this lineup. The concentration of fruit is beautifully balanced by the intense minerality of the wine. This really gains power and explosiveness on the palate-staining finish. The heavy presence of rocks in this site is felt in the salinity of the close. Finesse and power. It's all there in the Mazoyeres. Dugat used 100% whole clusters here. Anticipated maturity: 2029-2049.
