Couhins Rouge 2016

Tasting Notes

Attractive, ripe cassis with hints of smoke and violets on the nose, leading you into this medium-full red Pessac-Léognan with polished tannins and an elegant, long finish. Very food friendly. A blend of 44 per cent merlot, 42 per cent cabernet sauvignon, nine per cent cabernet franc and five per cent petit verdot. Drink or hold.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Couhins features notions of wood smoke, tapenade and tilled soil with warm redcurrants, cassis and wild blueberries at the core. Medium-bodied, it has an elegantly styled palate with plenty of earthy layers and a firm, grainy frame, finishing with an herbal lift.

Mid to dark crimson. Rich, sweet start (very ripe grapes?). Almost right bank-like. Lots of work has gone into this but there seems to be a bit of alcohol on the end. Then some lightly drying tannins but you can't fault the ambition.
