The 2024 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru is understated compared to previous vintages, lighter yet well balanced and displaying plenty of finesse, wild strawberry mixed with raspberry and wilted rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly furry tannins, moderate weight, nicely balanced with a persistent quite peppery finish that leaves the tongue tingling. Not quite in the league of the best vintages but certainly fine in context of the vintage. 2028-2048
Crimson with a paler rim. Some darker cherry and a bit of raspberry. A fair crunch on the palate, though this has ripened to perhaps the optimum degree for the vintage. No more than middleweight, but an attractive Pougets. Drink from 2031-2037. Tasted Oct 2025.
An excellent showing in this line-up of 2024s, Corton Pougets manages a spice and juiciness that few wines do this year. The nose is full of crunchy cherry and red berry fruit, together with spicy, layered wood tones. The palate has impressive body, with a pithy texture and peppery fruit character. Red-blue fruit and flowers come through, with well-measured wood adding some sweetness and softness. There is a sense of place and gravitas to this wine. Long, chalky and well-made.
