The 2024 Mâcon-La-Roche-Vineuse Les Bois Joyaux is the second iteration of this cuvée, sourced from a good grower in the northern Mâconnais, and it's another success, having attained fully 13.2% natural alcohol. Medium- to full-bodied, satiny and seamless, it offers up notes of apple blossom, peach and other crisp stone fruits.
This cuvée was first made in 2023 and is an impressive addition ddition to the Verget range of wines. Made from old vines planted on limestone soil with a Southern exposure, which brings significant richness - and a balance to the wine's minerality. Matured all in oak barrels with 25% new. Bright lemon in colour, in contrast to the Montbrison the Bois Joyaux is open and ready for business, showing juicy stone fruit, smoky barrel and white pepper on the nose. The palate has a succulent core of poached pear, polished citrus and a touch of well-judged, savoury wood smoke. This is silky, finely-textured and delicious already. Creamy with notes of apple sauce on the finish. Enjoy now or over the coming 5-8 years.
Julian Desplans (wine maker and right-hand man of Jean-Marie Guffens) says that the 2024 Verget wines have both minerality and power. Picked from September 10th to 28th. They are reminiscent of the 2010 and 2014 vintages.
