Tasting Notes

Much more narrowly defined than most 2009s, the opaque purple-colored Cos Labory reveals some jagged, raspy tannins. Although it appears to have plenty of concentration, its disjointedness is worrisome. (Tasted once.)

Served blind at the Southwold 2009 tasting. The Cos Labory ’09 has improved since we last met. Here, it has a sweet bouquet of raspberry, kirsch, marmalade and minerals that is captivating. Fresh and lively, it seems to “dance” with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a sappy, fruit-driven entry. Then it just seems to lose concentration, failing to deliver the delineation and tension that the superb aromatics deserve. This could be an awkward adolescent, but the back end needs to live up to the promise set by the aromatics. Tasted January 2013.
