Ruby-red. Laid-back but scented nose hints at roasted currants, licorice and smoked meat. Fresh and stylish in the mouth, with intense, well-delineated flavors of dark berries, tobacco and earth. A Crozes with impressive size and structure. Finishes with firm, thoroughly buffered tannins and late notes of iron and saddle leather.
The 1998 Crozes-Hermitage Thalabert has closed down, revealing austere, herbal notes. Feb 2001
The 1998 Crozes-Hermitage Thalabert does not possess a lot of fat and thickness, but it is still an excellent wine that merits serious attention. Its dark ruby/purple color is followed by a textbook nose of cassis, Asian spices, and salty black olives. Medium-bodied and rich, with good ripeness and moderate tannin, this wine should be consumed over the next decade. Oct 99
