The richly fruity, delicious, already complex 2007 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux is best consumed over the next 7-8 years. Drink 2010-2018.
A fresh and fruity young red, with currant and light vanilla aromas and flavors. Even a little white truffle. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a delicate finish
57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot (because the Petit Verdot didn’t reach the optimum level of ripeness and so didn’t make it into the grand vin). Very aromatic. Mid purplish crimson with a weak rim. Looks a lot weaker than Alter Ego. Very fresh revitalising nose, pretty weak on the palate. But fine. For the first time I could taste something like stewed apples! Very soft gentle texture but without much density. Fragrant, dry finish, Pretty long. Quite a different expression from the more voluptuous Alter Ego, Very light and dry. Certainly a very valid expression of Margaux. 13%. Drink 2012-16
) Bright red-ruby. Very fresh aromas of cassis, raspberry, minerals, licorice and flowers. Supple and nicely fine-grained but a bit lean, with a faint herbal/peppery quality giving this moderately dense wine a dry edge. Finishes with a firm spicy quality and good length, but could use a bit more sweetness of fruit.
Good colour, attractively fragrant nose of fresh red berry fruit that starts discreetly and grows in the glass, a wine of breed and balance. Drink 2011-20. 4 stars.
