Mid lemon yellow. Strict, fine and expressing the stony character of the vineyard more than the exuberance of the vintage. This is actually perfectly balanced, with just the right ripeness on the palate too. A fine minerality. Poise, class and length, very good. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Oct 2024. ****
Corton Charlemagne is a big Grand Cru, with aspects that sweep around a hill covering 17 hectares on varied soils at fairly wide-spanning elevations. Jadot's plot is 2 hectares in size and sits on a south-facing plot acquired in 1914. As is typical of Corton in its youth (and at times in maturity) the nose gives a sense of weight and depth without a discernable strong fruit character. Peach stones, cereals, pine nut and wood spice come through. The palate has a rich texture, creating a broad wine for the vintage which is ample in its core - again melding fruit stones and skins with a strong non-fruit richness. Layers of spice, cream and smoke linger on the finish.
