A popular classed growth of 90 hectares, situated south of Margaux near Cantemerle. The new owners have invested a great deal of money here in recent years and have also bought Paul Jaboulet Ainé in Hermitage. The vineyard is planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. The property was certified organic in 2016 and is currently working towards biodynamic certification.
The 2024 is 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot. 13.5% ABV.

The 2024 La Lagune takes a little time to coalesce in the glass, but a mélange of red and black fruit, cedar and cigar box emerge with time and lend more complexity. The palate is medium-bodied, fleshy and relatively forward with sweet ripe tannins. What is missing is a bit of grip and nuance on the finish, though it is fresh and there is a pleasant dash of white pepper on the aftertaste. Give it two or three years. Drink: 2029-2044
I entertained higher expectations for the 2024 La Lagune, a light to medium-bodied, ephemeral wine redolent of minty plums and loamy soil. Perhaps it will perform better in bottle.
Mid ruby colour in the glass. The nose immediately shows hedgerow fruit and blackcurrant leaf, with notes of pencil shavings and unsmoked tobacco. The fruit has a herbal tinge, bringing crunch of rosemary and thyme with bright cherry fruit. The finish is full of racy acidity, blackcurrant leaf and al dente red fruits.
A balanced, textural and refined red with cherries and sweet spices. Medium-bodied with fine tannins. Velvety texture with a long, denser finish.
Deep garnet-purple colored. Needs a fair bit of swirling to reveal notes of fresh raspberries and mulberries, followed by hints of sautéed herbs, pencil shavings, and damp soil. The light to medium-bodied palate is chewy and refreshing with herb-laced berry flavors and a firm finish.
Attractive leafy aromatics, juicy and chalky, this is tasty, old school, charming. These are not generous Cabernets but they have finesse and balance. Earlier drinking than recent vintages at La Lagune, this provides a great window into the skilful winemaking going on at this dynamic estate, owned by Caroline Frey. Harvest 23 September to 9 October. 50% new oak. 3.4 pH.
The 2024 La Lagune is a rich, deep wine. Dark-toned fruit, new leather, scorched earth, graphite and dried herbs all run through this potent, expressive Haut-Médoc. The tannins still need time to come together, but there is enough depth and overall pedigree for that to happen. Although it is not especially showy today, La Lagune has a good bit of potential. Tasted two times. 2028-2044.
