Far better from bottle than cask, this wine has turned out to be sleeper of the vintage. A product of the philosophy of Jean-Luc Thunevin, which emphasizes considerable lees contact, micro-oxygenation, and little or no racking, the 2000 has a deep purple color accompanied by copious quantities of jammy blackberry and cherry fruit intermixed with smoky espresso and sweet leather aromas. Impressively pure and textured, with medium to full body, low acidity, ripe tannin, and a thick, glycerin-imbued finish, it will be at its apogee between now and 2015.
This wine has benefitted from Jean-Luc Thunevin's elevage, which includes considerable lees contact, micro-oxygenation, and little or no racking. More enticing than it appeared last year, a deep purple color is accompanied by copious quantities of jammy blackberry and cherry fruit intermixed with smoky espresso and sweet leather aromas. Impressively pure and textured, with medium to full body, low acidity, ripe tannin, and a thick, glycerin-imbued finish, it will be at its apogee between 2003-2015. This is a sleeper of the vintage.
Another Jean-Luc Thunevin project, the soft 2000 Clos Badon is lighter than expected given Thunevin's talent. This superficial albeit pretty wine offers abundant quantities of cherry as well as red and black currant fruit, medium body, and an easy-going finish. Consume it over the next 7-8 years.
