A beautiful wine that should drink superbly for 15 years, this sensational 2007 was made from a tiny 26 hectoliters per hectare, and is a blend of 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc that achieved nearly 13.8% natural alcohol. The wonder duo of Nicolas Thienpont and Stephane Derenoncourt hit paydirt with this beauty, which may turn out to be a better balanced wine than their 2009. This opulent, sexy wine exhibits a dense ruby/plum/purple color, a full-bodied mouthfeel, sweet tannins, and lots of forest floor, black currant, ripe cherry, and mountain flora characteristics. Filled with power, substance, and elegance, it should be consumed over the next 15 years. Drink 2010-2025.
Focused and racy, with attractive mineral, berry and floral character. Medium body, racy tannins and a pretty finish.
Watery rim. Sweet black cherry fruit on the nose. Lift and sweetness. Quite a gentle texture until the green notes on the finish. Awkward rather than well knit or balanced. Very sweet – plus acidity. Drink 2012-2016
Moderately saturated medium ruby. Aromas of black fruits, coffee and mocha, with a whiff of cherry liqueur. Then sweet, round and soft, with noteworthy depth to the black fruit, mineral and licorice flavors. Finishes sweet and long, with ripe, suave tannins and very good breadth. Serious, complex, stylish wine with plenty of shape and energy.
Fine wine with a mix of elegance and power. Long and linear with pretty red berry fruit and the minerally stamp of terroir. Fresh and firm on the finish. Definitely ageing potential here. Drink 2013-2025. 4 stars.
