Tasting Notes

Huet's deep golden-apricot colored 1997 Vouvray Clos du Bourg Moelleux Première Trie opens with a highly delicate, crystalline, clear and aromatic bouquet with herbal and chalky-mineral aromas plus a dash of lemon juice. Pure, straight and fresh on the palate, this Clos du Bourg reveals a marvelous lightness, precision and crystallinity on the palate. It is straight, dense and vertical on the palate, showing great elegance, finesse and balance as well as complexity. The finish is long, full of energy, tension, grip and eternal youth. The fruit is highly delicate and precise here, of remarkable finesse and concentration but drawn with a pencil instead of a felt pen. Bottled with 78 grams of residual sugar in April 1998. Tasted February 2018.

Produced from vines planted in calcareous and stony soils, the 1997 Vouvray Moelleux Le Clos du Bourg 1ere Trie exhibits aromas reminiscent of smoke, clay, chalk, and candied lemons. This medium-boded, penetrating, as well as super-rich wine is balanced, concentrated, and intense. Layers of earth, apples, figs, white peaches and minerals are found in this magnificent sweet wine's flavour profile and stupendous length. Presently somewhat austere and reserved, it will benefit from a few years of cellaring. Projected maurity: 2003-2025+. 95 pts.
