Tasting Notes

Pale to medium lemon-gold color, the 2010 la Tour Blanche is a total spice bomb, featuring wonderfully redolent notes of nutmeg, coriander seed, cinnamon stick and powdered ginger with a core of pineapple upside-down cake, poached pears and bread dough. The palate is suitably rich and yet beautifully balanced, lending a refreshing, deceptively ethereal quality that will have you reaching for another irresistible glass. Yum! 2020 - 2040

Green and coconut on the nose. Streaky green and massively sweet with the pear juice quality of botrytis. Dense and rich. A bit jagged. Very, very young. RS 130 g/l, TA 3.9 g/l. 13.8%

Bags of acidity balancing the very high sugar content, impressive, and as always an intriguing touch of Muscadelle-like floweriness which is the signature of the growth. Marvellous finesse. Drink 2020-2050.

The La Tour Blanche 2010 has an outstanding bouquet with beautifully defined aromas of dried honey, peach skin, melted wax and butterscotch - linear, taut, and focused in keeping with the vintage. The palate is beautifully proportioned with that thread of acidity interwoven through the botrytized fruit. This is a Sauternes with volume and dimension and yet I am seeking more persistency on the finish, because it feels like the job is done too early. This is a good wine that dare I say, could have been even better with more ambition.

The Chateau La Tour Blanche has a complex bouquet with scents of grapefruit, honey, apricot and white flowers. The palate is very well-balanced, with a great sense of tension and poise, and notes of citrus lemon, lime, dried honey and a touch of marmalade that lead to a tightly wound, focused, almost Germanic finish. This is intriguing Sauternes that should repay considerable cellaring.
