Bright red with ruby highlights. Cool aromas of raspberry, smoke, meat and crushed stone. Wonderfully silky and sweet but with well-integrated acidity enlivening the complex flavors of pungent red berries, spices, leather and earth. Displays a creamy old-vines character but also boasts the energy of the vintage. (This cuvee typically has a relatively low pH, according to Mortet.) The youthfully tight finish features noble tannins and a whiplash of sweet fruit.
This offers up a most interesting aromatic profile of mint and intense floral notes that add interest to the otherwise very ripe red and black berry liqueur notes. The seductively textured, round and opulently rich flavors coat the mouth with dry extract yet good focus is maintained by the dense but exquisitely fine tannins that add to the overall impression of refinement on the long and well-balanced finish. A textbook Champeaux that corroborates its well-deserved reputation as one of the most refined Gevrey 1ers.
The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux floats on the palate with effortless grace in its exquisite red berries, flowers and licorice. Sweet floral notes reappear to frame the refined, almost fleeting finish. This Champeaux is a bit on the delicate side in 2010. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.

I quite like this because while here too there is that lovely sense of refinement, there is also good power and character.
