This is a pleasant, medium-bodied 1999 displaying notes of herbs and damp earth in its austere, undernourished personality. Notions of strawberry, cherry, and currant fruit also emerge, but there is not a lot to get excited about in this uninspiring 1999. It will last for a decade. Last tasted, 3/02.
Plum and smoky aromas folow through t oa medium bodied palate, with light tannins and a smoky finish. A bit short, but very pleasant. Best from 2003 thru 2006. 2250 cases made.
A soft, plump, savory offering, the mid-weight 1999 offers attractive levels of black raspberries, cherries, and currants. Some new oak is present, but it remains in the background. Graceful and symmetrical, but without much delineation, it should drink well for 10-12 years.
A reasonably fine effort from Beychevelle, this dark ruby/purple-colored 1999 reveals an attractive cedary, spice box, black cherry and cassis-scented nose, medium body, decent weight on the mid-palate, and moderate tannin in an elegant, supple finish. It should drink nicely for 12-15 years.
