The 1970 Rivesaltes has a pretty, unimposing, well-defined bouquet, more oxidative than its 1990 counterpart with dried honey, smoke and nutmeg. The palate is well balanced, tensile and poised, with a viscous opening, lively freshness and a bright, refreshing finish that is precise and very persistent. This is far superior to the bottle I tasted in 2018. Drink 2025-2045.
A medium tawny in colour which shows a clear leaning towards grenache noir in the blend, the nose here is one of dried cherries and figs, with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. The palate is smooth and silky, with vibrant acidity and fresh red and black fruits countering the sweetness and leaving only a medium-sweet perception. The dried fruit and layer-upon-layer of savoury and sweet spices add wonderful complexity. The finish is spicy, almost peppery and enduring in it's fruit power.
Real drive and excitement! Long and racy with real energy. (JR)
Chocolate, granite, floral, incredible depth and layering on the finish. Such incredible density! A powerful and infinite palate.
Copperish mahogany colour, this has a comforting nose of old leather, old books and dried fruit. The palate is spicy and layered with cinnamon and clove, salted almonds and tangy acids. This is fine boned and layered, a sumptuous and easy-to-like wine.
