Super aromas of nutmeg, cloves and dried flowers with plums and blackberries. Subtle yet so complex. Full-bodied, tight and integrated with ultra-fine tannins and a beautiful finish. Lasts for minutes. Very, very Cos. Harmony. Texturally marvellous. Drink in 2024.
The 2015 Cos d'Estournel is medium to deep garnet colored. It features delicate scents of stewed red and black plums, redcurrant jelly, and dried cherries with touches of sauteed herbs, tobacco, and new leather. The medium-bodied palate is nicely poised, with well-managed tannins for the subtle black fruit and savory layers, finishing refreshing.
Tasted blind. Aromatic. Polished. Tea-leaf flavours and rather suave for a 2015 St-Estèphe. Clean and fresh. A good drink. Racy with lots of interest.

The 2015 Cos D'Estournel is a classic wine from this estate and a terrific effort from the northern Médoc. Compared to both 2007 and 2004 by the estate and representing only 39% of the total production, it offers a fresh, classy bouquet of crème de cassis, black raspberries, toasty oak, graphite and damp earth. Made from 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc, this medium to full-bodied 2015 has solid mid-palate depth, fine, polished tannin, and a great finish. It’s going to improve with short-term cellaring and keep for two decades. 2021 - 2041
The mix of black fruits on the nose is sweet the start of the palate has depth rich black cherry. Lighter in the middle bright fresh fruit a hint of spice yet there is richness and sweetness at the back a feeling of balance.
This is a very good rather than a great Cos. Deeply coloured and richly oaked, it has nice
spice and smoky oak, with well integrated tannins and good length, but I’d like a little more
stuffing in the middle of the wine. Drink: 2022-28
Stunning nose, superb control and great poise, this is a serious and rather thoughtful Cos with terrific refinement. It
seems to be sitting quietly and running over in its mind the complexities of the vintage and the success it has made of
itself. Wonderfully calm initially and then smooth on the mid-palate, the tannins build and then storm the palate on the
finish but rather than leaving your mouth dry, they then fade and leave your mouth watering but not wounded. It seems
that any potential aggression in the tannins was ameliorated by the hot summer. This is a superb wine which starts
quietly, builds then retreats to an incredibly calm and long finish. Interestingly, the yields were lower in 2014 but more
wine was made, whereas the yields were slightly higher in 2015 because of the perfect flowering but more selection was
made and this meant that they made fractionally more wine this year.
The 2015 Cos d'Estournel is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23.5% Merlot and 1.5% Cabernet Franc that was picked between 17 September and 5 October at 44 hl/ha. It is being matured in 65% new oak, less than in recent years due to the tannin (IPT is 71). Deeper in color than the 2015 Pagodes, it has a very pure bouquet with tightly knitted blackberry, blueberry and violet scents, perhaps just a little Margaux-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, well-judged acidity and harmonious in the mouth. What it does not quite deliver is the complexity of a top-tier Cos d'Estournel or the peacock's tail of flavors on the finish, which feels linear and conservative compared to its peers in more southerly appellations. You feel as if the vintage put a tight leash on this Saint Estèphe grandee. There is pedigree in this Grand Vin for sure and it is bound to give up to 20 years of pleasure.
This shows what great selection did in the northern Mêdoc. Big surprise. Really excellent. Full body, chewy and rich tannins and loads of ripe fruit. Black currants, blueberries. It has hot and ripe tannins yet cool fruit.
Extremely dark crimson. Lovely spice and breadth. Hint of tobacco leaf with lots of ripe fruit. Very comfortable. A lovely pair of slippers. Real tension and ripeness - great combo. Nothing forced. Ethereal and builds towards the end. Certainly has the graphite ingredient. 13.4%
